Julie B. Skaggs, M.D.
Professional and Personal Background
Dr. Julie Skaggs is a native of Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2005. She then completed her internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Dr. Skaggs completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Utah, followed by a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Michigan.
After completing her training, she was privileged to work on the Navajo Nation reservation for three years. She became interested in seeking additional specialty training in cornea surgery and went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to complete a two-year cornea fellowship. Dr. Skaggs’ fellowship was partially funded by Miracles in Sight, and she participated in research with North Carolina eye Bank. During her cornea fellowship at UNC, she also supervised residents in the field of neuro-ophthalmology.
Dr. Skaggs has been published in prestigious scientific journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology, with many articles published under her maiden name, Julie Shelton. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Skaggs decided to join the Redman Gelinas Eye Care team because of their shared commitment to excellent patient care, while keeping the patients best interests as their guiding principal. She and her husband Michael look forward to enjoying all the seasons and outdoor activities the Northwoods has to offer.
